Legalizaciones (Please scroll down to read the English version)

El Consulado General de Bolivia proporciona servicios de legalización a ciudadanos bolivianos y extranjeros que solicitan la autenticación de los documentos que surtirán efectos legales en Bolivia. Dichos documentos comprenden poderes, registro de marcas, certificaciones, diplomas, notas de estudios, cartas de referencia, etc. En tal sentido, previamente se necesita efectuar los siguientes tramites:

  1. Los documentos deben ser reconocidos ante un Notario Publico
  2. Certificación por el Secretario de Estado donde se origina el documento

Cada documento debe ir acompanado por una fotocopia. Documentos sin fotocopias seran retornados sin procesar.

Si los documentos estan en ingles, averigue con su contacto en Bolivia si necesitan ser traducidos. Las traducciones se consideran documentos adicionales y deben seguir el mismo procedimiento.

NOTA.- Sirvase incluir una fotocopia de los documentos originales asi como la traduccion respectiva y un sobre rotulado y pre-pagado si desea recibirlos por correo. Recomendamos usar un servicio de courier como ser Federal Express, DHL, etc. El Consulado General de Bolivia no asume responsabilidad por daños o perdidas en el correo.

Costo
$85 por documento

Servicio en el mismo día
Para procesar los documentos en un mismo dia, hay un costo adicional de $30 por documento. Los documentos se tienen que entregar en el Consulado los Viernes a las 9 am y recogidos a las 4 del medio dia y los Sabados a las 9 am y recojidos a las 12 del medio dia.

Favor incluir sobre rotulado y pre-pagado si desea recibirlos por correo. Recomendamos usar un servicio de courier como ser Federal Express, DHL, etc.

LEGALIZATION OF NOTORIZED AND CERTIFIED DOCUMENTS
CONSULAR LEGALIZATION REQUIREMENTS

The Consulate General of Bolivia in Houston provides legalization Services to Bolivian citizens and foreign nationals on all documents that will be used in Bolivia. Documents include powers of attorney, trademarks, certifications, diplomas, transcripts, letters of reference, Certificate of Donations, etc.

The following prior authentications are required:

1. Documents have to be acknowledged by a Notary Public.
2. Certification by the Secretary of State of the state in which the document is executed.
3. Certification by the Secretary of State of the United States. ( Not always necessary)

It is recommended that documents be translated into Spanish. Translations are considered as another document. (Check with your contact in Bolivia to confirm if the translations are needed).

All the documents need to have a photocopy. Documents without photocopies will not be accepted.
A self-addressed, stamped envelope if it is requested that documents be returned by mail. It is recommended a courier service be used (i.e. Federal Express, DHL etc). The Consulate of Bolivia does not assume responsibility for damage or loss in handling documents.

The same procedures mentioned above apply for educational documents issued by universities, colleges and high schools.

Certification of the signature of a private person can be done before the Chargé of Consular Affairs.

Fee: $85 per document. Cash, money orders or company checks only.

Processing time: 24- 48 hours

Same day process:
There is an additional charge of $30 per document if same day service is required. Documents must be dropped off Monday – Thursday at 4;30 pm and picked up no later than 7 pm; Fridays they should be dropped off at 9 am and picked up by 12 noon.



Legalization of civil status documents

US birth certificates, marriage and death certificates must be have the Certification of the Secretary of State of the state in which the document is executed. For documents issued in Texas, this can be obtained at the following address, following the menu to Statutory Documents:
